Johannes Ostrander Sr was the first known precinct clerk of Rhinebeck, the northernmost precinct in Dutchess County, New York. He served continuously from 1749 to 1756. The job entailed the management of elections and local government, requiring the ability to read, write, and speak Dutch and English.
