Stephen Brecht came to America with his mother, brother, and younger sister. He purchased land on both sides of the Tulpechocken River about 10 miles upstream from Reading. He was granted the land by the Penn Family 27 Nov 1745. He organized the North Heidelberg Church and was the second person to be buried there. His tombstone is placed flat on the ground as was the Moravian custom at that time. His wife is buried next to him in an unmarked grave.
