The Adams name is thought to be of Welsh origin, originally Ap Adams(Ap meaning "son of" in Welsh), the Ap was dropped from the name as the Adams became more integrated into English culture and society.

Henry Adams (1531-1596) lived all his life in Barton St. David. He was also a yeoman husbandman and became a bondsman. He served as a court witness on several legal matters. When he was 8 years old he may have witnessed the brutal public hanging, beheading, and quartering of Richard Whiting, the last of Glastonbury's Abbots in 1539. GEDCOM Note

Here again we have different genealogies giving different names for the fathers (John ADAMS or Richard ADAMS) but listing all the same names for their spouses and for their children. Are John and Richard ADAMS different people? If so how could the both marry the same women and give all of there children the same names? I believe there is only one person whom I have listed as John (Richard) ADAMS.

There also seems to be a lot of confusion as to which set of parents John (Richard) Adams belongs too. I have given both sets of parents, but after much research I believe that Henry and Rose ADAMS may really be an uncle and an aunt who took Richard in after something happened to his real parents whom I believe to be Nicholas John ADAMS and Margaret SQUIRE.

But we only know the name of one of the two daughters (Lucy (Adams) French). The other has still not been discovered.

These four sources have together the most complete picture of this family group:
