notes

John Adams died sometime between 1720 and 1730 in Stafford (later Fairfax) County, Virginia Colony. Per Northumberland County, Virginia Colony, records, his parents were William Adams and wife Frances Adams. The present online Family Tree Adams Y-DNA test results have male descendants supporting this conclusion by recording their Northumberland County, Virginia Colony, ancestors as William Adams, and John Adams.

In summation, these Northumberland County, Virginia Colony, records of proceedings before the County Court, identified Frances Adams as the widow of William Adams, her deceased husband, who had remarried Richard Routt by 1687. In Colonial Virginia, England's law of primogeniture was in effect, where real estate of an Intestate passed to the eldest son. John Adams, being the eldest son, and wife Katherine Nipper/Napier sold their land in 1701/2 and the widow Frances Adams, who remarried Richard Routt, signed his deed as Frances Routt, relinquishing her legal right of dower ( Hening Statute, inherited 1/3 ownership for life) as widow of William Adams in order for John Adams and Katherine Nipper/Napier to sell his King's Creek land, on the main road from Cone Mill, in Northumberland County, Virginia Colony, prior to migrating to Stafford County, Virginia Colony.

John Adams's wife Katherine has been subsequently identified as Katherine Nipper/Napier of Northumberland County, Virginia Colony. In one genealogy she was possibly of the Norman? family due to the Thomas Norman deeds of Stafford, VA. But a James Nipper has been located living close to the Adams family during this timeframe in the Northumberland, Virginia Colony, county records. James Nipper on 20 August 1679 he was Surveyor of Highways. He needs further research.

John Adams of Hunting Creek was born in Northumberland, Virginia Colony. John Adams, also known as John Francis Adams, Sr. had married Katherine Nipper/Napier in Northumberland, Virginia Colony. His parents were William Adams, Jr. and Frances, maiden name unknown. William Adams, Jr. and wife Frances Adams bought land 1670 from William Taylor of Northumberland County. John Adams and Katherine his wife inherited this land per colonial primogeniture law and was selling it 1702 to Robert Harrison of Northumberland County. John's mother, Frances, had remarried to Richard Routt, and signed the deed as Frances Routt, relinquishing her lifetime dower right to this land. Her Routt children also signed as legal children by Frances' second husband. John and Katherine Adams subsequently migrated to Stafford, Virginia Colony, where they and their children had legal deed records documenting this migration.

William Adams and wife Frances were his parents, per Northumberland, VA, LDS microfilm records where Frances is relinquishing her dower rights on the deed John Adams sells Northumberland, VA , prior to migrating to Stafford, VA, and died there ca 1725.

Older notes

John Adams (the carpenter) was possibly transported to Virginia in 1677 as a headright to George Brent probably at age 16-20, perhaps from Kent Island. This colonial Virginia land procurement headright system established by the Virginia Company (1618) allowed George Brent to acquire more land, since paying for the passage of those transported into the colonies as headrights from England gave the payer 50 acres per headright. John Adams is referred to as carpenter in several land deeds on Accokeek Run, Stafford, VA. John Adams the carpenter, from Northumberland, VA, prior to Stafford, VA, migration and Thomas Norman of Stafford, VA, bought and sold land to each other from 1702-1704 on Accokeek Run. Tobacco land becomes useless for tobacco after a few years planting. It requires burning to reinvigorate the land.
Daniel, the eldest child, in 1690 took care of a young, Richard Tullos, with ties to his grand-uncle (?) Thomas Adams and Cloud Tullos (male indentured servant) Northumberland, VA. Katherine Adams and John Adams sold their Northumberland County land in 1702 to the Shirley family prior to migrating to Stafford, VA. This land was owned by Uncle Thomas Adams the bachelor in 1664 in Northumberland, VA.
