About John Francis Adams
Trying to figure out if this is the same guy:
"The Other John Adams examines the religious and literary accomplishments of a man who contributed to and reflected the changing American cultural dynamics of the 1720s. A Congregational minister, poet, and essayist, and member of the Harvard class of 1721, Adams became embroiled in a doctrinal dispute in Newport that was part of an ongoing debate over which people are eligible to receive the ordinance of Holy Communion. Adams took the liberal position, vanquishing his adversary, Nathaniel Clap. As a poet, Adams helped introduce neoclassical values to American verse, values that predominated for much of the remainder of the century. He made the greatest number of contributions to Proteus Echo, the second essay series to appear in American newspapers. Adams was among the first writers to expose Americans to poetry inspired by Dryden and Pope, and his creations were among the first American essays modeled on the sophisticated prose of Joseph Addison.
