John Alexander Ross [Marine "Lady Penrhyn" 1788]

John Alexander ROSS was the son of Major ROSS and he arrived in Sydney Cove on 26/1/1788 on "Lady Penrhyn"

On 4/3/1790 sent to Norfolk Island on "Sirius"

In December John returned to England with his father on "Gorgon"

John died 29/6/1800 at Middlesex

NOTE: There are discrepancies regarding John's date of birth

• recorded as being born in 1779
• recorded as being a Lieutenant in the Royal Marines in 1787 (aged 8?)
• recorded as being promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 8/2/1789 (age 10?)
• his father was born 1740 - his date of birth is more likely to be 1759 than 1779
