John Alexander of Boghall and Blackhouse is the only son of the Reverend Mr. James Alexander, Minister of the Gospel at Kilmacolm. He succeeded his father at Boghall in 1669, and his grandfather, Robert Alexander, at Blackhouse in 1687. Memorials: 25

John Alexander of Blackhouse was enrolled as a burgess and guild brother of Glasgow on 20 April 1702. Glasgow Burgesses, 1573-1750, p. 251 His son and heir, Robert Alexander of Boghall, was enrolled as a burgess and guild brother of Glasgow on 31 May 1710, having been admitted in right of his father.
