William Alexander, Lord Provost of Edinburgh

William Alexander, second son of John Alexander of Blackhouse and Boghall, succeeded to the paternal estates on the death of Robert, his elder brother. He became a banker in Edinburgh, and was elected Lord Provost of that city in 1752, and its parliament- ary representative in 1754.
