About John Baird

JOHN BAIRD

At least one pedigree published by My Heritage claims that it was John Baird, here treated, who married Agnes Bryson. This is not possible, however. John Baird, here treated, predeceased his father, who died before 2 October 1746, and he cannot therefore be the man who married Agnes Bryson.

Birth and Baptism

John Baird, here treated, was born before 11 February 1728, the date upon which his baptism was registered at Glasgow in Lanarkshire, Scotland. [National Records of Scotland, Glasgow Baptisms, 1719-1728, reference OPR.644/1/10]

His Father's Testament Dative and Inventory

Margaret McEwan gave up the testament dative and inventory of John Baird, her deceased husband, on 2 October 1746. She was recognised as executrix dative to her deceased husband on the same date. No financial provision was made for any children, from which circumstance it would appear that they had no children who were still alive on this date. William McEwan, Tailor and Innkeeper in Glasgow, acted himself as cautioner for Margaret McEwan, and confirmation was granted to her on 11 October 1746. [National Records of Scotland, Glasgow Commissary Court, Testament Dative and Inventory of James Baird workman in Glasgow, reference CC9/7/59]
