  • Ball, John W.W. 12 October 1750 W. P. 8 April 1751 Codicil 6 March 1750/1---
  • Daughter Sarah Ball-eight negroes Humphries, Davey, Jesse, George9 Isabell, Betty, Letty and Silles and five shillings sterling money and no more of my estate.
  • To the boy that may be called my son as being born in Wedlock that is said to be born in June 1741 and to be christened Mark Anthony the son of my wife Margarett one shilling sterling and no more of my estate; the reason I have given the boy Mark Anthony no more than one shilling of my estate is because his mother my wife Margarett has absented herself from me about ten years as much from August last past and its about six years since the said Mark Anthony was born, and it is impossible he should be my son; I have not for near these eleven years last past had any carnall knowledge of any kind whatever with my wife Margarett which is said to be the mother of Mark Anthony.
  • To the two children that my wife Margarett delivered of(as I an informed)in the month of December 1743 and said to be christened Mille and Landon-one shilling sterling money each and no more of my estate, the child that my wife Margarett delivered of(as I an informed)in the month
  • of September 1747 and said to be christened Anna-one shilling sterling money and no more.
  • Whereas my father Capt. George Ball deceased, in his will gave me the use of six negroes viz: Sam, Fillis, Ben, Humphries, Tom and Rose and their increase to me during my natural life, and to prevent any suit that may arise on account of my being possest of the above negroes before my fathers death, I give all the right I have if any of the said six negroes to my four brothers to be equally divided between them as my father left in his will.
  • I give a large common Prayer Book to the use of Wiccomoco Church.
  • After all debts, legacies are paid all my personal estate to be equally divided amongst all my brothers and sisters.
  • Three brothers David, Richard and Joseph Ball, executors and guardian to my daughter Sarah Ball.
  • Witness: Josias Gaskins, Josiah Mayes and James Waddey
  • CODICIL: Daughter Sarah Ball to have 550 pounds tobacco to be laid out for her cloathing by her guardian.
  • Witness: George Ball.
  • In order of probate Margarett Ball widow of said John Ball came into court and dissented to said will.

  • Pinckard, Thos. 29 Aug. 1740. Rec. 10 Oct. 1740, w.b. 13, P. 183. "Wife : Elizabeth. Sons: Thos., all land I now live on; John. Daus: Elizabeth Brent and Margaret Ball. Exors: Sons and Cousin Wm. Stepto. Wits: Thos. Stepto and Thos. Bridgford. "That my daughter Margaret Ball may be maintained out of my estate as long as she behaves herself well and lives from her husband John Ball."

  • George BALL, in his 1746 Northumberland Will left bequests to his wife, Grace HAYNIE Ball; his mother-in-law Sarah HARRIS (1) Haynie (2) Waddy, named as Sarah WADDY; and SEVEN children: John BALL married to Margaret; George BALL; David BALL; Richard BALL; Joseph BALL, Sarah BALL Dameron and Harris BALL, unmarried daughter. His son George BALL was his Executor; his sons, John, David and Richard BALL were his witnesses.
