John Barnard

John Barnard (1791-1830) was the third child born to Jonathan "Teacher" Barnard Sr. b. Jan. 1, 1760, in Massachusetts d. 1813 and Obedience Bridget "Biddy" Barnett b. May 17, 1768 in Henrico, VA d.1848 in Mercer, KY Parents married Goochland Co., VA on 2 Nov 1784.

John married Mary Polly Grissom (or Griffith?)on Nov 8, 1813 in Knox Co., TN. She was thought to be half Cherokee Indian.

John's Cause of Death: Drowned in the Holston River in 1830.

Note: According to an exerpt from his father's Jonathan Barnard's will, filed in Mercer Co.,KY, October 14, 1835, "In the first place, I want my pension drawed by Garret Durlin and my debts paid and Garret Durlin and wife satisfied for their trouble with me and I want all my plunder put to sail my debts collected by Mr. Durlin and my deceased son John Bernard, (four/five?) orphan children to have my estate equally divided between them living in Grainger County, East Tennessee. Let this be done at my decease this is my last Will & Testament. Signed Jonathan Barnard."
