About John Francis Bassett

He served the state of Florida in both the Indian Wars and in the CSA. After joining Company C, 3rd Regiment, he became sick with dysentery and pneumonia, and was placed on leave by his doctor. After a short period of convalescence, he rejoined the army with Colonel Munnerlyn's Cavalry and Capt. Leroy G. Leslie's Company K. This company was among cavalry men who volunteered to act as infantry instead, being referred to as "Cavalry, Dismounted".
