John Beads was born in 1820 in the North-West Territories, which, at the time of his birth constituted most of what, in 2002, is Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and the NWT. He is registered on government records as a Protestant and was a carpenter for the Hudson Bay Co for the period 1851 - 1854.
