About John Henry Beall, Jr.
George H. Beall was born in Stafford County, Virginia, circa 1790. He migrated with his parents to Hardy County, (West) Virginia, and then to Randolph County, (West) Virginia. As did his brother, Townsend H., he also served in the War of 1812, attaining the rank of lieutenant. In 1812 he married Mary Ann "Polly" Parsons, daughter of Isaac and Mary Ann "Polly" Mace Parsons. The ceremony was performed by Simeon Harris. Next, George H. Beall moved to Lewis County, Virginia (now Gilmer County, West Virginia). George H. Beall received a grant of land located in the area of Sinking Creek, Gilmer County. He also acquired lands near the mouth of Cedar Creek, some of which are still owned by his descendants. Therebly some of those lands came to him as a result of his service in the War of 1812. There is some controversy as to where George H. Beall is buried. One of his granddaughters stated that he is buried in the Pisgah Church Cemetery, DeKalb, Gilmer County, WV. A more distant relative holds, on the basis of an interview with a grandson of his brother,Townsend Beall, that he is buried in what is now known as the Riddle Cemetery, near the mouth of Third Run, Gilmer County, WV. This writer is of the opinion that the more likely burial place is in the Pisgah Church Cemetery. Many of his relatives are buried there and his home was located close to that cemetery. Unfortunately, there is no grave marker to verify the burial place. George H. Beall is enumerated in the 1850 census of Gilmer County and again in the 1860 census of that county. In the latter enumeration, he was listed at age seventy. He died June 20, 1867.
