Should not be confused with another Revolutionary War soldier of the same name: John Blackstock, born in 1753, died May 28, 1793. A native of Scotland, he enlisted on July 16, 1779 in Captain John Irvine’s Company of the South Carolina Militia and served until May 12, 1780. He was past Master of St. John's Lodge #6, and late Grand Secretary. He was buried at Christ Church Cemetery, Frederica, (Georgia) and interred with Masonic rites.
