Son of Joseph S. Blakemore (1804-1866) and Susannah Clora Hamblen (1814-1866). Married 1st, 05 Mar 1857, Lee Co., VA; Martha Jane Ely (b. 28 Apr 1831, d. 19 Jan 1858; Lee Co., VA). Martha died giving birth to son Andrew M. E. Blakemore, who also died that year.

Married 2nd, 14 Dec 1858, Lee Co., VA; Matilda Evaline Veneable; and had 8 children. Matilda died 21 Jan 1910 and is buried in Fairmount Cemetery, San Angelo, Tom Green, TX.

Corporal, 64th Regiment, Virginia Mounted Infantry, Company B. First enlisted in 21st Battalion Virginia Infantry, Company B; which merged with the 64th in November 1862. Was captured at Cumberland Gap on 09 Sep 1863 and was held a prisoner in Camp Douglas, IL until end of war; released 15 Jun 1865.
