John Browne, 1st Earl of Altamont [1]
John Browne, 1st Earl of Altamont was born circa 1709.[1] He was the son of Peter Browne and Mary Daly.[1]
He married Anne Gore, daughter of Sir Arthur Gore, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Annesley, in December 1729.[1]
He died on 4 July 1776.[1] He was buried on 7 July 1776 at Westport, County Mayo, Ireland.[1] His will was probated in 1776, in Prerogative Court, Dublin.[1]
He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, on 17 July 1725.[1]
He held the office of Sheriff of County Mayo in 1731.[1]
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Castlebar between 1744 and 1760.[1]
He held the office of Governor of County Mayo.[1]
He was created 1st Baron Mount Eagle, of Westport, co. Mayo [Ireland] on 10 September 1760.[1] He was created 1st Viscount Westport, of Westport, co. Mayo [Ireland] on 24 August 1768.[1] He was created 1st Earl of Altamont, co. Mayo [Ireland] on 4 December 1771.[1]
He lived at Westport, County Mayo, Ireland.[1]
