John Bryson immigrated to the United States with his family (wife Isabella, son Robert, and daughters Mary, Jane and Margaret) on May 31, 1849.
The Bryson family is recorded as living in Morris County, New Jersey in both the 1850 Federal, and the 1855 State Censuses. In the latter, their surname is recorded as "Brison".
He declared his intent to become a citizen on June 29, 1857, at the Court in Hudson County, New Jersey. He was naturalized in the same court on November 7, 1859.
