Note by Chet Snow: There are different birth years given for John Buchanan, ranging from 1610, 1615, up to 1629, on different family trees. For his wife, Jean Agnes Forrester, the dates range from 1627 to 1630. Their marriage date is 1745 in Ulster, Ireland, and some sources say Jean Agnes Forrester was born in Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland. I believe the earlier birth dates are more accurate (1622 for John; 1629 for Jean Agnes) making him 23 and her 16 when they wed. These were average ages for the time and place. This also makes John Buchanan the son of Elizabeth Leckie[1]

He later moved to Lancaster County, Pa. The list of the family by Alexander Buchanan, the son of Captain John Buchanan and Martha 'Buchanan Buchanan, a great grandson, showed the landing and settlement at Chester. That record was in the papers of Capt . Felix Grundy Buchanan in 1921. "BUCHANAN A Genealogical History", by John A. Blakeman, 1978 , Quality Printers, Inc., Bristol, Virginia, page 228.
