Biography Buller, whose family had been seated in Cornwall since Elizabethan times and had long represented Cornish boroughs as well as the county, owned a large number of the burgages in Saltash, where he was returned in 1718. A moderate Tory, classed by the Jacobites as ‘dubious’ in 1721,1 he voted against the Government on the repeal of the Occasional Conformity and Schism Acts, but was absent from the division on the peerage bill in 1719. He was defeated for Saltash in 1722, the borough thereafter passing under the control of the Admiralty. Described by the county historian as ‘a gentleman endowed with every virtue that can adorn the human character’,2 he died 23 June 1751.
