Buried west of road leading to Madison from Shepherds, via Kirley place and about opposite old Robert plantation house-place.
"In 1805, John Burney, a third generation descendant of William McBurney, moved with his wife and five children from his father's land in Greene County, and settled in Morgan County, south of Madison along the east side of Indian Creek. William McBurney had immigrated from Ireland in the late 1600s and settled along the North Carolina coast. John was born in Orange County, NC, in 1760, and in 1784 accompanied his father, mother and three younger siblings to Georgia, settling on land granted his father for serving in the American Revolution. John Burney and his wife Elizabeth Walker reared ten children, nine of which reached adulthood." A Southern Soldier's Letters Home, Samuel Burney
