About John Butler, 17th Earl of Ormonde

John Butler, 17th Earl of Ormonde and 10th Earl of Ossory (10 December 1740 – 25 December 1795) was an Irish peer and Member of Parliament (MP). He represented Gowran between 1776 and 1783, and Kilkenny City between 1783 and 1792. In 1791, his right to the Peerage was acknowledged in the Irish House of Lords.

John Butler, 17th Earl of Ormonde and 10th Earl of Ossory was born on 10 December 1740 and died on 25 December 1795. He was the son of Walter Butler, 16th Earl of Ormonde and Ellen Morres. He married Frances Susan Elizabeth Wandesford, daughter of John Wandesford, 1st and last Earl of Wandesford and Agnes Elizabeth Southall, on 14 February 1769.

Walter Butler, Marquess of Ormonde (1770-1820), married with Anna Maria Catherine Clarke, only daughter of Joseph Hart Pryce Clarke, no issued.

James Wandesford Butler, 1st Marquess of Ormonde (1777-1838), married with Grace Louisa Staples, daughter of Rt. Hon. John Staples and had issue

Charles Harward Butler (1781-1860), married, firstly, with Lady Sarah Butler, daughter of Henry Thomas Butler, 2nd Earl of Carrick and, secondly, with Lucy French, daughter of Arthur French.

He was MP for Gowran 1776-1779, and for Kilkenney 1790-1791, in which year his right to the Peerage was acknowledged in the Irish House of Lords.
