Notes for John Haynes Butler On the baptism record for his son John Haynes in 1850 it was indicated that he lived in Port Beaufort, the current Witsand South Africa. His occupation was given as working in a mercantile store. Although the current records gives the birth place of his children William James, Mary Ann and Louisa White as Swellendam, this is based on information from an unconfirmed source. It is likely that they were also born in Port Beaufort. After the baptism of his son John Haynes, his occupation is consistently given as a painter living in Swellendam right through to the baptism of his daughter Jane, two month before his death. John witnessed the baptism of Isabella Elizabeth Taylor on 31 September 1846 at the Saint Francis of Assissi Church, Simon's Town. John witnessed the baptism of Andrew Henry Taylor on 31 Dec 1849 at the Saint Francis of Assissi Church, Simon's Town. John witnessed the baptism of Louisa Mary Morgenrood on 8 Feb 1852 at the Christ Church, Swellendam. John witnessed the baptism of Mary Ann Elizabeth Scott on 22 Jun 1856 at the Christ Church, Swellendam. John witnessed the baptism of Mary Ann Taylor on 8 Nov 1857 at the Christ Church, Swellendam. John witnessed the baptism of William Cooke on 26 Oct 1862 at the Christ Church, Swellendam
