In 1465, Edmund Starkie of Barnton near Northwich in Cheshire married Elizabeth de Simonstone the heiress of the land at Huntroyde.
In 1578 Nicholas Starkie (born c.1566), son and heir of Edmund, the builder of Huntroyde married Anne Parr, the heiress of estates at Kempnough in Worsley and Cleworth Hall in Tyldesley that in 1596 was associated with witchcraft. His son John (1584–1665) inherited the estate in 1618 and went on to become one of the Chief Justices of the Peace in Lancashire and Sheriff of Lancaster. His eldest son Nicholas, a captain in the Parliamentary army, inherited but was killed in 1643 by the gunpowder explosion at the siege of Hoghton Tower.

  1. Nicholas Starkie, born abt. 1566, Padiham, buried 18 Aug 1618, Padiham + Ann Parr, married 5 Aug 1578 in Leigh, died 1610, Padiham. In addition to John, below, this couple are known to have a daughter Ann Starkie, baptised 21 Nov 1585 at Eccles, who married Robert Dyke, who of Westwick near Ripon.
    1. John Starkie baptised 6 Dec 1584 in Eccles and died 1665 in Padiham, inheritied the Huntroyd estate in 1618 and became a JP for Lancashire. In 1633 he was appointed Sheriff of Lancashire. During the Commonwealth period he was on the committee responsible for the confiscation and disposal of lands belonging to Royalists. + Margaret dau of Thomas Leigh, married 1602 and died 22 Dec 1644, Padiham.
      1. Mary Starkie, baptised 15 September 1605, Middleton, died 7 August, Altham, married Richard Banastre, who died 28 May 1663.
      2. Nicholas Starkie Esq., of Huntroyd, baptised 1 Feb 1607, Eccles, died 14 Feb 1643. He served in the Parliamentary army during the Civil War. After the surrender of Preston in 1642 he was sent to take Houghton Towers the seat of Sir Gilbert Houghton where he was killed by an explosion. (see Footnote 1).
      3. Anna Starkie, dau of John Starkie and Margaret Leigh, baptised 2 Feb 1612, Eccles
      4. Piers Starkie, baptised 2 Feb 1612, Eccles, died 1689
      5. Elizabeth Starkie, baptised 25 May 1613, Eccles, married Thomas Tildesley 2 Nov 1630 at Padiham
      6. John Starkie, baptised 11 FEb 1616 at Eccles, buried 6 May 1623, Padiham
      7. Edmund Starkie, baptised 25 May 1617 at Eccles and died 1657
