Pvt John Henry Callen
He was a lumberman, and stood over 6' tall. This is a photo of him taken in the fall of 1861 in the unifrom he originally wore when he was a new enlistee in the Civil War in the United States Sharpshooters -Company C, 2nd Regiment. Later he was uniformed in the standard dark blue coat and accessories. of the Union army; family tradition hoods that a photo existed of him in the Union uiform that was taken while he was stationed in Washington D.C. with the Army on the Potomac." There is a "small (pocket sized) book given to John Henry by...Jane (Shadle) Callen when he went to war. It is signed "Grandmother Callen" The book contains an appropriate Biblical verse for each day of the year. John Henry carried this little book in his uniform breast pocket through the War. It is blood stained (his blood), but is in beautiful condition."
