Henrico Co VA Court Order Book, p.361 23 Mar 1686. Ester, aged 22 said that a fortnight or three weeks before she went to her father Pledge's and did then eat some hoggs feet and beef which her said father gave her and the said feet being fresh. She signed her mark. John Cannon age about 43 signed a deposition Apr 1, 1686 in which he stated about two or three years ago John Pledge had 20 head of hogs or thereabout and that said Pledge lived [near] him 4 or 5 years and he never wronged any person of anything. [This appears to be testimony given after John Pledge had been accused of stealing hogs. John Cannon is almost twice Esther's age. At least some of the children named in his will are likely too old to have been Esther's.]
