The St. George's Parish Register has him born in 1734, but his Rev. War Pension Record has the date of 24 Jun 1745. He fought in the American Revolution from both Virginia and South Carolina. He came to what was then Hawkins Co., Tn (now Hancock Co.)with his 2nd or 3rd wife, Jane Barnett. His father was Edward Cantwell of Baltimore, MD.
