About John Joseph Carroll

His mother's name on the Baptismal certificate is shown as Elizabeth Berkery. Sponsors were Thos. Shea and Mary Finn. The registration records of the period were destroyed in the Post Office, Dublin, in the Rebellion of 1916. John went to New Zealand in 1884. He won a scholarship to the London School of Economics but they were too poor for him to take it up. Had notable athletic and musical career.
