About John Cockworthie, Escheator of Devon
John Cockworthye of Yarnscombe was escheator in Devonshire. "Escheat" is where a property reverts to the fuedal overlord in absence of a legal heir or when a tenant is outlawed.
At Yarnscombe, there is a 15th century monument to John and his wife.

He was conveyed his father's lands by Feb. 1456, and made a freeman of the Borough of Launceston in 1467.

Richard married Joan, daughter of Edward Bampfield, of Poltimore, esq., and had issue Anthony, William, Henry, John, Alexander, Ann, (married to Hugh Bury, of Coleton, esq.;) Petronel, Ursula, Francis, and Elizabeth. Anthony married Elizabeth, daughter of Lewis Stukeley, of Affeton, esq., and had issue.
