1535- Apprenticed.
1543- Freeman of London, England, then immediately moved to Halstead, England.
Death record date is in old style, 1600. New style would be 1601.
He was buried Jan. 3, 1600/1601 at Halstead and was called "gentleman". He married (1) Elizabeth ____ and (2) Katherine ____. John had land at Munchensies in Halstead near Coggeshall bridge on the left-hand side of the road leading from Halstead to Colchester. In 1563, he made "great additions" to his home perhaps in preparation for his second wife, Katherine. He also built an almshouse at Halstead which had an inscription on the porch, "John Coggeshall did Bild this Hous in AoMD63". His will was proved on Jan. 8, 1600/1, leaving wife, Katherine, as one of the two executors.
Children by first wife: 1. Richard, named in his father's will 2. John, named in his father's will
Children by second wife: 3. Katherine, bpt. Dec. 26, 1564, m. Thomas Harrington. Her children named in their grandfathers will in 1600. 4. Elizabeth bpt. Feb. 27, 1571/2, buried at Halstead Feb. 23, 1604/5, m. Rev. John Watson, vicar of Halstead, who was living in 1600. They had six children. 5. JOHN "THE YOUNGER" - MY ANCESTOR; b. July 24, 1576.
