'Obituary MR JOHN CRACROFT WILSON. OTAGO DAILY TIMES, ISSUE 21201, 5 DECEMBER 1930
MR JOHN CRACROFT WILSON. At the age of 69 years, Mr John Cracroft Wilson died unexpectedly on Wednesday (says the Christchurch Press). Mr Wilson was the eldest son of Mr Frederick Cracroft Wilson, and a grandson of Sir J. Cracroft Wilson. He took little interest in public affairs, but was a very well-known farmer and a keen exhibitor of stud stock. He was a life member of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and for some rime he lived on his father’s estate at Culverden, before farming the Cashmere estate. When his father died he took up residence on the original estate at Cashmere, and latterly had devoted his attention to breeding poultry. He was also very much interested in horse breeding. Outside farming life Mr Wilson was a keen golfer and a player of some merit. He took an exceedingly active part in the affairs of the Christchurch Golf Club in its early days, and assisted largely in the club’s development. He was a member when the new links at Shirley were taken over and put into commission. He received his education at Christ’s College, St. Andrew’s University, Scotland, and at Jesus College, Cambridge, taking up farming immediately upon his return to the Dominion from Cambridge. Mr Wilson married a daughter of Sir John Hall. He leaves a widow, two sons, and two daughters.
