He lived for some years in Kentucky (Boone, Christian, Caldwell and Warren counties) before migrating futher westard into newly opened territories.

John Corlew and family were among the first settlers of Perche Boone County Missouri and John was for many years constable of Perche Twp. In addition to serving the people, he took a deep interest in education and was a strict member of the Primitive Baptist Church. (Buried at the Old Rocky Fork Church Cemetery)
