Lifelong friend of prime minister Stanley Baldwin. He was Conservative MP for Hemel Hempstead from 1920 to 1923 and from 1924 to 1937; and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster from 1923 to 1924 and 1931 to 1937. From 1926 to 1930 he was Chairman of the Conservative Party, and raised to the peerage as 1st Viscount Davidson in 1937.
