About John Densmore

John Densmore was a quite successful composer of light music and popular songs, notably a lovely tango tune called "Cigarette" - lyrics begin, "You are my cigarette"! - which was used in a hit movie (possibly Butch Cassidy?) in the 1970s. At some point, maybe around 1915, he married his lyricist, but unfortunately they decided to end their marriage en route from the ceremony to the reception - whatever occurred on the back seat of the car (or carriage, or trolly) also spelled the end of their professional collaboration, and John's musical career. For the rest of his life, he was seen almost every day wandering around Boston, always dapper and sporting a pink necktie, which earned him the nickname 'Pinkie'. He never married again, and seems to have enjoyed alcohol quite a bit in later years.
