Obituary: Teutopolis Press - April 29, 1948

JOHN H DOEDTMAN DIES

John H. Doedtman passed away at his home in Teutopolis Saturday morning, April 24, 1948 at about 9 o'clock, after having been in failing health for some time, and suffering a stroke recently. The remains lay in state at the Habing Funeral Home in Teutopolis until time for the funeral services which were held Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Teutopolis.

Mr. Doedtman, who was 75 years, 6 months and 13 days of age at the time of his death, is survived by his devoted wife, the former Teresa Esker; five daughters: Mrs. Leo (Carrie) Busse; Mrs. Frank (Mary) Buehnerksmper; Mrs. Edward (Josephine) Hatke; and Mrs. Joseph (Teresa) Funneman, all of Teutopolis; and Mrs. William (Verena) Brackney of Montrose; 10 grandchildren; three brothers: Joseph Doedtman and William Doedtman of Wheeler; and Henry Doedtman of Green Creek; three sisters: Mrs. Catherine Waldhoff of Island Grove; Mrs. Mary Bussman and Mrs. Anna Habing of Green Creek; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

The Doedtman family came to Teutopolis from the Island Grove community about fifteen years ago, when Mr. Doedtman retired from farming.

Rev. Egbert Huster, O. F. M., pastor of St, Francis parish was the 'celebrant at the Requiem High Mass Tuesday morning and also officiated at the graveside in the parish cemetery.

Pall-bearers were nephews of the deceased, namely: Joseph Waldhoff, Joseph Beckman, Richard Apke, Albert Habing, George Esker and Ralph Esker; and those, carrying flowers were: Joyce Hatke, Carolyn Heuerman, Marian Esker, Rosemary Doedtman and Mary Ann Apke.
