John Downing 1678, of Hatfield

John & Elizabeth had children Jonathan, Elizabeth, Sarah & Dorothy.

Elizabeth, wife of John, is NOT Elizabeth Perigo. Her parents are unknown.

Confusion of Mary Perigo, wife of Jonathan Downing 1677, and Elizabeth, wife of John Downing

Apparently, the parents of Elizabeth are unknown, but sometime in the past, it was assumed that she was the sister of Mary Perigo. See below. I have for the time being deleted the birthdate, birth location, and maiden name of Elizabeth, wife of John. This needs more research. [Hatte Blejer, May 2020]

"The only Downing / Perigo marriage I have found was of a Jonathan Downing b. Jan 1677 Hatfield, MA s/o John & Mary (Bunce) Downing to Mary Perigo b. 1Apr1677 Lyme, CT d/o Robert & Marah (Wood) Perigo. Jonathan & Mary had children Mary, Jonathan & Elizabeth born at Groton, CT."

"Jonathan had a brother, John Downing b. 29Oct1678 Hatfield, MA d. 1729 Groton, CT who had a wife Elizabeth ____?who died at Preston, CT 13Feb1735/6.John & Elizabeth had children Jonathan, Elizabeth, Sarah & Dorothy."

"Mary Perigo had a sister, Elizabeth b. 1683 but I have found no evidence that she ever married or even lived to adulthood."
