About John Dustin, Sr.
A Patriot of the American Revolution for Massachusetts with the rank of Private. DAR Ancestor #: A035520
According to an application for membership in the organization, U.S. Sons of the American Revolution. which was submitted in 1919 by John's 3rd great grandson, Horton Ware Cook, John Dustin was a Private and a guard under Captain Timothy Eaton's Company, and was a Minute Man under Col. Johnnston's regiment, which marched on the Alarm of April 19, 1775. He was also with Capt. Samuels Company, Major Gages Regiment, and with Captain John Bodwills Company under Col. Jacob Gerrish Regiment of Guards. While guarding the Hessian prisoners at the Battle of Saratoga, he secured pieces of their money and had them made into silver spoons and Horton and his family had one of the spoons in their family. John Dustin was the great grandson of Hannah Dustin of Haverhill, Massachusetts, who was captured by the Indians, and escaped after scalping and killing her captors in 1697.
