John Edgecombe, of Tavistock

Not the son of Sir Peter Edgecombe, MP & Lady Joan Edgecombe. Their 4th son was John, born before 1525, and who died without issue.

John Edgecombe was the son of Peirse/Peter Edgcomb of Tavistock, Devonshire.[1][2] The indentity of his mother is unknown. Based on the estimated date of birth of his eldest surviving son and heir (1547-1556),[3] John was probably born sometime in 1517-1534, with about 1525 being a reasonable mid-point estimate.

John married Joan Trelawney.[1][2] She was probably related to the Trelawny family whose pedigree appears in the 1620 Visitation of the County of Cornwall,[4] but the exact relationship has not yet been determined.

John and Joan had the following children (and perhaps others):

1. Peter, b. probably sometime in 1547-1556, m. before December 7, 1577 Agnes Edgecombe, d. 1608. (See discussion and sources in Peter's profile.)
2. John,[1] d. in Ireland[1]

John Edgecombe died sometime before 1574.[2]
