Constable of Lynn (1688), soldier in King Phillip's War

There are two contesting descent lines to us from William and Mary:

There is considerable controversy or confusion concerning the ancestry of our ancestor Revolutionary John.

In Geni, I am assuming the following ancestry path, documented by cousin Nancy B. Edmands Allen and cousin Pat Brown Mathews is valid. (Note that there are only four steps [generations] between William Edmands and John S. Edmands, whereas the other path, the one not documented by Geni nodes, has five steps.)

1. William Edmands (Edmunds), 1610-1693, m. Mary

2. Joseph Edmands, 1642-1718 (third child of William and Mary), m. 27 Jan. 1685 to Elizabeth Bridges--the brother of John Edmands, who is documented on this page.

3. Robert Edmands, 1688-1749, m. 28 Oct. 1719 to Abigail Doutey

5. John S. Edmands, b. 12 Nov 1738. --the person documented on this page.

On the other hand, the following is the path documented by Mary Caroline Findley Edmands, which is not documented by nodes in Geni. (Note that there are five steps [generations] between William Edmands and John S. Edmands, whereas the other path has only four steps.)

Reasearch Notes

Consideration might be given to this Mary George who wed John Edmonds was not the daughter of Richard and Mary Pell George. Some researchers believe she may have been a widow. "The Great Migration" adds a comment that Mary Lovering Holman thought that Mary was the sister of the second wife of Joshua Blanchard who John Edmonds called brother-in-law. Joshua Blanchard's 1st wife (not connected on Wikitree) was Elizabeth ______________. His 2nd was Mehitable Edmands. That would make John wedding his sister Mary Edmands George? That's doubtful. The fact that John/Joshua were brothers-in-law is solid via Mehitable Edmands. Speculation: maybe they were in-laws from a different direction. Perhaps Joshua's older sister Mary Blanchard, b. 1659, was John Edmonds' 2nd wife. Her first husband, _____________George, is unknown. With no attribution, FindaGrave, for Samuel Blanchard has daughter Mary, b.18 Apr. 1659, d. 1704. Of course, there is the Watertown, MA marriage for Mary George/Nathaniel Pitman in 1695, which lines up w/ the Thwing Collection analysis. March 3, 2021.
