About John Erskine of Balhaggardy
John Erskine of Balhaggardy married before 1551, a daughter of the neighbouring Laird of Kenmay, Sir Archibald Douglas of Glenbervie, and had a son, John, (who appears in 1565 as eldest son).
John Erskine of Balhaggardy (his son) must have succeeded before 1615, when Thomas Erskine appears as fiar (p. 418). – (John Davidson 1878, Inverurie and the Earldom of the Garioch)

Pedigree
- Sir Thomas Erskine of Brechin (a 1542, Lord of Session) m1. Agnes Ogilvy m2. Elizabeth Scrymgeour (dau of Sir James Scrymgeour of Dudhope, Constable of Dundee)
- 1. Thomas Erskine (dsp) m. Ann Ogilvy (dau of James Ogilvy, 4th Lord of Airlie) TSP (Airlie) names the 4th Lord's daughter (who married Sir Thomas of Brechin) as Agnes. As BLG1886 mentions only Elizabeth Scrymgeour as wife of Thomas's father Thomas, there is a suspicion that there has been some confusion as to which Thomas married a daughter of Lord Airlie.
