Josias with his brother John left Massachusetts in 1652 and settled in Hempstead, Long Island, NY in that year. Josias did not accompany his brother John who moved to Middleburgh (which later changed its name to Newtown) in 1656. Josias subsequently moved to Middleburgh in 1664. Settled in Newtown, LI. Came from England with his father John, a brother and four sisters.

Josiah Furman sold his lands to his brother-in-law, ____ Beers, and moved to Hempstead, Long Island: later to Newtown, LONG ISLAND
