About John Wesley Foard, Esquire

John Foard was a signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, 20 May 1775. He was one of a commission sent to confer with the Patriots of Rowan County at Salisburg before the war came on. His will is dated 25 Apr 1798. His wife Catherine Robinet and their children were (1) Zebulon(will dated 28 Feb 1805) who married Elizabeth, and had John, Ezekiel, Zebulon, William, Rueben and Elizabeth; (2) Elizabeth, who married William Morris. A sketch of John Foard written for the Southern home of 20 Aug 1878 and republished in the Charlotte Observer 10 Aug 1913 states he came from Virginia to North Carolina with his young wife, Catherine Robinet and two children Zebulon and Elizabeth then 7 years old.
