About John French, Jr.

Researched by M Hollis Hutchinson (genealassie@gmail.com)

BIRTH: This person is pure guesswork. 1) There is room for another chil d between the marriage of Joseph to Hannah and the birth of William; 2) t hree of the four known French brothers (Lafford, William, and Simon) name d a son "John"; 3) naming patterns suggest that there is a "John" at eith er the father or grandfather level; 4) the family tended to use the sam e names in every generation; 5) there is a John French in the SC militar y and land records prior to Dec 1806 (so John French, son of Lafford an d his second wife, Elizabeth, is too young to be the John referred to her e); 6) it cannot be the John French, son of William French, brother to Jo seph Fench, Shopkeeper, since that John stayed in NJ.
