https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Garrett-53

John GARRETT was born in 1706 in Kent County, Virginia. He died on 23 Oct 1784 in Hobbesville County, South Carolina.

John Garrett signed his will 23 October 1784, with his seal. Witnesses to the will, probated in Abbeville County, South Carolina were

  • Jones Rivers,
  • Nicholas Ware,
  • John King .

To avoid confusing men with identical names, John Garrett, in his will, identifies the executors as "Henry Ware, Sr., of the State of Georgia," and "Henry Ware, Jr., of the State of South Carolina." (Henry, son of Nicholas Ware, IV (wife "Dolly" Garrett) was known as "Edgefield Henry Ware." John Garrett named his children:

  • Son, Robert Garrett and heirs
  • Daughter, Frances Longmire and heirs; Grandaughter Sukie Longmire
  • Daughter Elizabeth Long, in the State of VA, to have 300 pounds of Virginia currency
  • Daughter, Martha Ware
  • Daughter,Lucy Lowry, should she have a child, (Lucy died childless)
  • Daughter Dolly Ware and heirs.
  • Son John, Jr., who died when John Sr. was living in Virginia before going to South Carolina.
  • John Garrett divides the estaste of his deceased son, John Jr. among his sons, Francis, Ausgustine, and Henry; the will was dated 1760. In his South Carolina will John Garrett did not mention the children of his deceased son, who were living in Virginia. He evidently had provided for their inheritance before leaving Virginia..
