About John George
The last John Crozier to live at Gortraw house, which fell to ruin after he and his brother Desmond (who went to war and d.1944) failed to look after it. Their dad died in 1932, mum in 1964. Beauclerc left in 1933 and Desmond (???) John remained in Fermanagh, living with his mother until she died in 1964. (They are buried together in Newtownbutler.)
After his mother died, John lived in one room (6 bdrm house) at Gortra. He sold the house in 1968 to Seamus O'Harte, for 4000 pounds, who had been their neighbour for years. 92 acres all overgrown with rhododendrons. The house was demolished in the 1970's and another one built. In 1985, Seamus sold it to his nephew, Conor O'Harte, who still owns it today (2022). He said they used to have lovely Hereford cattle on the farm, when the Croziers had it.
John George bought a house on the main rd in Newtownbutler where he lived another 10 years before he died and left it for adopted/foster brother Frank Allett. Mrs Macavilley used to give him meals as she felt sorry for him, and he did help on their farm (onn the same rd s Gortraw House). I think he bought the house next to Tom Mcguire. We wonder if he left his dad and Desmond's War medals with Frank too.
John George always rode a bicycle everywhere, even to Dublin. He wore a long raincoat and a peak cap. He was tall and thin. He was well-spoken, great diction; the son of a gentleman. Well respected in the town. He died of a heart attack, aged 69.
