About John Girdlestone
John is the 4th child in this family group (tree follows his brother Thomas): http://home.scarlet.be/sharmadillo/fam-shar/fam01887.htm
http://www.salthousehistory.co.uk/girdlestones.html# (or archived version) shows John b.1642 marries Sarah Foord... But (see below) there's a baptism record for a John born 1666. Needs checking.

John Girdlestone lived at Kelling in the capacity of steward to Mr John Lang, (the principal land-owner and the lord of the manor of Kelling and Salthouse and certain neighbouring parishes) and also held a farm under him. They were further connected by the fact that they married two sisters — Mr Lang's second wife being Phebe Ford (or Foord), and John Girdlestone in 1704 having married sister Sarah Ford. This last marriage was celebrated at Baconsthorpe church (not far from Kelling), by the then Rector the Rev Valentine Haywood who had married Elizabeth Ford, an elder sister of Messrs Lang's and Girdlestone's wives, and was recorded in the parish church register by the entry: "John Girdlestone, Single man, and Sarah Foord, single woman, were married by licence October the 12th 1707"
John Girdlestone died in consequence of a fall from his horse, and was buried at Kelling 8th January 1718. His wife being consanguineous with William de Wykeham, some of his descendants were able to enjoy, while they lasted, the privileges accruing from such kinship, by gaining admission to Winchester College, Oxford, as "Founders kin".
In his family research, Robert Baker Girdlestone (see his page), acquired a copy of John Girdlestone's will which was made in 1713 and proved at Norwich in 1719.
Robert said " This will proved to be an interesting and valuable document. The testator, for example, speaks of the estate at Kelling, which he hired of his cousin John Lang. But the two most interesting features of this will are the naming of his two brothers Richard and Thomas as executors, and his orders that £1 should be paid yearly to his uncle "Thomas of Thornage"
John and Sarah Girdlestone's children were :
John: b 1709, B. A. Caius College 1731 M. A. 1735. He was a Surgeon and died young
Richard: b 1710. He farmed, and never married; but is said to have had a large family all taking his name. "He was (said -)"an immense man, 3 yards round his body"
Thomas: b 1711, he went to New York, and died unmarried.
Joseph: - nothing is mentioned of him
Henry: b 1712. A Surgeon of Holt, Norfolk, married in Norwich Cathedral, Margaret Cooper of N. Walsham whose father was High Sheriff for Norfolk. He died 12 April 1788, aged 72.
Dorothy and Sarah: b 1714 and 1715. One of these died single, and the other married a worthless man and had a large family who were continually relieved by relations in better circumstances.
Zurishaddai: Born at Kelling four months after his father's death 18 May 1719, and named Zurishaddai after his Godfather John Lang's father Zurishaddai Lang.
