ZURISHADDAI GIRDLESTONE 8th son of John Girdleston of Kelling from: TheGenealogical Notes on the Girdlestone Family (written by an early Girdleston in 1898)
He was born at Kelling, four months after his father’s death, and baptised 18 th May 1719 at Kelling. The name Zurishaddai is Hebrew and means "The Almighty is my Rock". He was named after his Godfather John Lang's father Dr. Zurishaddai Lang. John Lang sent him to Caius College Cambridge where he was admitted in 1738 and took his B A degree in 1741. He was curate of Scarning in 1742, and in 1746 was presented to the living of Baconsthorpe with Bodham by John Lang the patron.
He married his first cousin Sarah HEWITT at Salle near Heydon on 6th Dec 1748, by licence.
John Lang, who though twice married died childless, bequeathed to Zurishaddai at his death the whole of his real property including considerable landed estates and the advowsons of several livings, Kelling Hall being the residential Manor House; but he died only a year after inheriting this property, leaving his eldest son Zurishaddai junior 17 years old.
After his death his widow Sarah lived at the Old (Kelling) Hall where, by strict economy seconded by the good conduct of her servants, she was able to retrieve affairs during her son's minority. For her husband had raised large sums of money on the property in order to help several of his elder brothers.
He was succeeded as Rector of Baconsthorpe by his wife's brother the Rev. W Hewitt.
