John, eldest child of Jarvice Gold, was ten years of age at his father's death, and married, August 21, 1673, Mary, a daughter of Robert Crosman, a prominent settler of Taunton, Massachusetts, where they lived and where he died December 14, 1711, aged sixty five years. He was a cordwainer and was a trooper in Captain Edward Hutchinson's company in King Philip's war, 1675, and was in the first squadron of the military company at Taunton, in 1682. Their children were: Mary (died young), John, Hannah, Joseph, Nathaniel, Mary, Jabez, Benjamin and Elizabeth. In this family in this third generation the name was changed to Goold, which spelling should be adhered to by their descendants.
