About John Graham, Lord Graham
JOHN GRAHAM Lord Graham
According to the late William C. Bishop: "John, Lord Graham, born 1630. He was brought with his brother James to Perth by Sir John Graham of Braco after the battle of Tippermuir, and constantly accompanied his father thereafter, to prevent his falling into the hands of the Estates, until his death, after a short illness, at Bog of Gight (Gordon Castle), in February 1645. This promising youth, whose only known signature is attached to a bond executed by Montrose and his friends three days before the battle of Inverlochy, was buried in the churchyard of Bellie, Banffshire." The Scots Peerage VI: 253-4
Evidence from the National Records of Scotland
30 January 1645: A bond of union amongst all His Majesty's faithful and loyal subjects, as also of mutual assistance and defence. This bond is subscribed at Killiwheimen, now Fort Augustus, soon after the battle of Inverlochy. The first signature is that of Montrose, and the second that of the Earl of Seaforth. The third signature is that of Lord Graham, eldest son of the Marquis. National Records of Scotland, Papers of the Graham Family, Dukes of Montrose (Montrose Muniments), reference GD220/3/184

Commentary by Private
I am not confident that this William Graham born circa 1648 in Canonbie and died 1751 in Bullpasture, Virginia was the son of John Graham, Earl of Kincardine who died in battle at the age of 15 in 1645 and have not found any credible records that connect the two as father and son. It is my understanding that John Graham, Earl of Kincardine was unmarried and died childless. I view this connection as an inaccurate attempt to connect this William Graham to James Graham 1st Marquess of Montrose and without credible evidence I would like to see the connection removed until supporting documentation is presented.
