About John Gunn, Sr.
John Gunn was the son of Thomas Gunn and wife Sarah Boatwright. He was born c.1728 in Hanover County, Virginia and died in Caswell County, North Carolina.after August 17, 1790. He was named in his father's will.
The Boatwright Family Association does not name John's wife. The Gunn family states he married Olive (unk) and maybe Mary (unk.) A will has been found for him, dated August 17, 1780, and probated that year in Caswell County, North Carolina. The will, posted below, leaves part of his estate to his wife, but her name is not given in the will. See also:

John Gunn made his will on August 17, 1780 and it was probated in Caswell County, North Carolina the same year. In this will he names five children. John Gunn's namesake John Gunn Jr. was killed in the Revolutionary War at the Battle Of Eutaw Springs in South Carolina, where John and his brother Daniel were fighting the British.

In the name of God, AMEN. I John Gunn being sick and weak but of perfect sense and memory, do make this my last will and testament and dispose of my estate in the form following; I do give to my son Jesse all my land. I give to my son John one cow and calf, when he has a mind to take them. I give to my daughter Sally one bed and furniture and two cows and calves and also to Gabriel and Daniel one horse each to be delivered to them at the age of eighteen out of my estate. All the rest of my estate I lend to my wife during her life, if she continues a widow, to raise my children. If she does not continue a widow during her life, when she marries for my estate to be equally divided amongst all my children. I do appoint my wife my executorix and my son James my executor.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the seventeenth day of August seventeen hundred and eighty.
